“HOME” - I wrote this song the other night while the rains were coming down. The only instrument I have here is my banjo, so I’ll likely be uploading some new banjo songs throughout the year. My hosts here have a harmonium as well, so I’m excited to play a bit of that as well. I also have a few tracks that are unreleased, old studio recordings that I still haven’t mixed up – should get those out on the site sometime in the coming months.
To listen, click on the black bar at the bottom of the screen – this is the “streampad” music player, and will automatically stream all the songs that I post to the site. If you push the little button in the player, it will pop it out into a new window, and allow you to continue browsing the site while you listen. Right now, there are about 7 or 8 songs uploaded.
The image is a an acrylic painting I created in 2004.

“HOME” – words/music by M. Halley
Verse I
Sitting back listening to the crickets croak
Raindrops dripping through the fire and smoke
Drifting off listenin to the words she spoke
And they take me home
Ox-cart bouncing on the cobblestone
And I’m sitting there feeling all alone
With whispered words through a telephone
You take me home
Verse II
Love’s a word and home’s a thing
That’ll make you blossom, bloom and sing
It can make just about anything feel OK
On a far off journey to a foreign land
In the deep, dark jungle or the desert sand
The feeling of your hand in my hand
Will take me away – home.
Verse III
When you’re sick and tired and soaked with sweat
Another mile to climb before sunset
And deep inside your soul you get
That desire for home
Just take a sec and close your eyes
Familiar memories will materialize
Sights and sounds illuminated like fireflies
Will take you home

One of your best, Matt. You keep getting better and better.
Love the new song. It almost makes me cry but not quite. Too happy to hear you singing and playing like the first night you sang for us at Erin’s house. Miss you two but get a lot of joy just thinking about you. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Love it Matt!!
LOVE the new song Matt! Josh is the cutest older brother and is playing it for everyone! Hope you two are doing well. Your blogs are amazing - I’ve loved reading and getting lost in them. Truly great stories and pictures. Sending some West Coast love!!! xoxo
